Renaissance Capital appoints Global Head of Equity Derivatives

Moscow, May 6, 2010 – Renaissance Capital, the emerging markets investment bank, is pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher Carter as Global Head of Equity Derivatives, Equity Finance, Convertibles and Delta One. His role, a new position at the Firm, will be to oversee the build-up of the bank’s global derivatives capability as it seeks to meet the growing demand from clients in emerging markets for world-class risk management capability.

From 1998 to 2007 Carter was at Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB), latterly as Global Head of Equity Derivatives. In this role, he was instrumental in the successful expansion of the bank’s global equity derivatives trading, sales and structuring in London, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Prior to that Carter was Co-Head of European Cash Equity and Head of European Convertibles. He played the leading role in combining convertible and derivatives trading and sales in Europe and bringing CSFB Credit Derivatives and Equity Derivatives together to form an agency rated instrument allowing fixed income investors to take advantage of correlation pricing in the equity market. Most recently, Carter was co-founder and portfolio manager of the macro volatility fund manager Black Tower Capital.

Carter is charged with aggressively expanding the Firm’s derivatives and equity finance platform. This will entail both increasing sales efforts outside the Russian market and widening the Firm’s product range, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. A strong focus will be on structured derivatives, convertibles, and delta one/financing product.

Renaissance Capital is investing substantial resources behind its ambitions to become the premier investment bank focused on the emerging markets of Russia/CIS, Central Asia and sub-Saharan Africa offering a full range of investment banking services. The Firm recently announced the establishment a foreign exchange capability offering clients a full range of product including spot trading, futures, and fx derivatives. The objectives for the derivatives business are similarly ambitious. Renaissance Capital aims to provide a uniquely sophisticated range of derivatives product including a wide range of equity and index derivatives, structured products centered on these fast-growing markets.

Nick Andrews, Global Head of Equities at Renaissance Capital, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Chris at the time when we are aggressively exploiting the significant growth opportunities and continue building a first-rate team of equity derivatives practitioners. Chris’s unparalleled knowledge of the Asian and European markets, his impressive management track record in derivatives trading, sales and structuring will be extremely important to us as we aim to become the premier partner to clients across all our geographies for equity derivatives and structured products.”
