Mr. Cornthwaite has nearly twenty years of investment banking experience, mostly gained in emerging markets. He has been involved in more than half of all Russian equity capital markets transactions, having focused on the country for Credit Suisse before joining Renaissance Capital in 2005. He is also involved in large cross-border M&A trades involving either Russian clients or foreign companies doing business in the Russian market. At Renaissance, he serves as Deputy CEO and Head of Investment Banking and Financing.
Since 2007 Mr. Cornthwaite has played a pivotal role in the development of Renaissance Capital’s businesses in new geographies (particularly Africa, where he lived for a year taking responsibility among other things for setting up the firm’s business in Nigeria) and in developing its ongoing push into the natural resources banking space.
As one of the most senior investment bankers operating in frontier emerging markets, Mr. Cornthwaite has worked on more than 150 equity transactions raising more than $25 billion for his clients, and has been involved in major M&A transactions in Russia, the CIS and Africa.
Mr Cornthwaite has a first class law degree from Oxford University. Prior to joining Renaissance he worked as a solicitor in London and Hong Kong before moving into investment banking with major international banks. Immediately prior to joining Renaissance he was Managing Director with Credit Suisse First Boston in London.
